Daniel “Dan” G. Gwirtz

Saginaw, Michigan

Daniel G. Gwirtz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison. He was 88 years old. Daniel George Gwirtz was born on October 23, 1935 in Crestline, Ohio to the late George and Flossie (Garverick) Gwirtz. He graduated from Tiro High School in Ohio. Dan was then drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Germany. Dan met his life partner while they were serving together in the Army. From the point that they met, they became inseparable. Following their time in the service, they came back to Michigan and purchased a farm in St. Charles, where he loved to spend time with his horses, chickens, a donkey and many cats. He worked for U.S. Graphite for 35 years as a machine operator, and retired in 1996. Dan was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #4232, the Moose Lodge #82, the Saginaw Eagles Club #497 and American Legion Post #439. In his free time, he could be found playing cards, visiting a flea-market or going to the casino. Dan’s love for life and service could be seen in his love for people and animals.

Daniel is survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Thomas and Diane Miller and Ronald and Marianne Miller; dear friends: Kevin Grimaldi and Dave Loessel; nephew and niece: Anthony E. (Robin) Gwirtz and Cynthia Gwirtz-Satterfield; many additional extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, life partner, Dale Miller; brothers, Eugene, Bernard, Carl and Herbert Gwirtz; brothers-in-law: Richard and Dennis Miller; sister-in-law, Shirley (Jean) Stoneburner; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Daniel and Clarabelle Miller.
