Olympia M. DeAgostino, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Edgewood Assisted Living. She was 92. Olympia was born March 15, 1931 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Nicholas and Vincenza (Corrado) Surian. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949 and attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids before returning home to Saginaw. Once home, Olympia met Vincent DeAgostino and the two were married June 14, 1952 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Saginaw. After starting their family, Olympia began working as a secretary and office manager at St. Mary’s Hospital retiring after 25 years. Her ceaseless volunteer work after retirement included many worthy causes, notably the Cathedral’s monthly Neighborhood Breakfast, Jazz on Jefferson, and mentoring children at Arthur Eddy Academy. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where she served on the Parish Council and also as the organist for 9 a.m. Mass. Upon the church’s closing, she and Vince joined and were active at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. While always keeping busy, Olympia also found time to enjoy herself. Cooking for her family and others always brought joy to her heart as well as playing the piano, gardening, and reading a good book.

Olympia is survived by her children, Martin (Myrna) DeAgostino, MaryHelene (Jim) Garbarino, Ellen Slasinski, Stephanie (Brian) Ewing, John (Bonnie) DeAgostino, Andrea (Jim Smith) DeAgostino, and Stephen DeAgostino; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Connie DeAgostino; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Vincent DeAgostino; son David DeAgostino; son-in-law, Larry Slasinski; daughter-in-law Kay DeAgostino; and her 9 siblings.

The family extends special thanks to Edgewood Assisted Living and CareLine Hospice for the care and compassion they gave to Olympia and her family.
