SERRATO, Mary Lucy of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at University of Michigan Hospital. Age 74 years. Mary Lucy Serrato was born on September 18, 1946 in Caro, Michigan the daughter of Juan and Irene (Kapp) Martinez. She married her dearest darling Eduardo on January 12, 1963 in Saginaw, Michigan. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2011. Mary Lou was full of life and lived every moment to the fullest. She loved to dance and was the life of the party. She loved dancing to all types of music; she would often have dance battles with her grandchildren. She taught them dance moves and always learned the latest dances. She was and will always be the Coolest Grandma. She enjoyed going to the casinos, cooking, watching her favorite tv shows, playing her lottery numbers and doing scratch off tickets. Mary Lou will be remembered for being the caretaker of everyone and always was the glue that held her family together. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. She loved to call many members of her family daily or often to see how they were doing. Mary Lou was a women of great strength and great faith, a true fighter. She had many tough obstacles and prevailed through them all. She would say, "You have to think positive, be brave and ask God to help you." When asked how she was doing her response was always, "Thank God, good." Mary Lou was a social butterfly. She enjoyed talking to everyone; all who knew her, knew her favorite saying "Hola Hola Hola". Mary Lou will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Eduardo (Yvette) Serrato, Javier (Mary Helen) Serrato, Marc (Dalia) Serrato, Sonia (Eugene) Herrera, Serena (Roberto) Garcia; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 9 brothers and sisters: Roy (Sharon) Kapp, Question Mark, Robert Martinez, John (Amanda) Martinez, Theresa Wcisel, Olga (Robert) Wright, Yolanda (Virgil) Ibarra, Alice (Donald) Wilson and Victoria (James) Henry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Eduardo, Mary was preceded in death by a brother Gilbert. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the University of Michigan Hospital, Neurological ICU staff for their care and support. As well as James Teener MD, Carolyn Epplett NP, and the staff at Mid-Michigan Infusion Center in Midland for their continued care and friendship throughout the years. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 N. Sixth Ave. Rev. Fr. Frank Voris OFM Cap, will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION - Friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A private family Vigil will take place at 7:00 PM. In keeping with mandated ordinances and for the safety of the community, face masks are required, social distancing, and gathering guidelines will be observed. Family has also asked to please be considerate in not offering any physical contact. In offering condolences, the family has asked to share: although we would like to hug each of you, we must remember that we are here due to the COVID virus. We kindly ask all to refrain from hugs and handshakes as we are trying to avoid the loss or infection of another loved one. MEMORIALS - In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy, we ask that you share in a dance at home and think of our Mom, or call your loved ones just to say hello and share an expression of love for each other.
